Clinic News, Please Read:

Bethany is now offering clinical counselling with a focus on somatic therapy. Her counselling schedule is available to book online below.

A friendly reminder to please try to arrive only at the time of your appointment. Our space is small and gets crowded easily. Arriving at the start of your appointment time gives us adequate time to tidy up between clients and avoids crowding in our waiting area. Thank you!

**New Counselling Clients** - Please book a free consultation with Bethany prior to booking your first counselling appointment. This is an opportunity to chat about your goals, what you are looking for in a counsellor, and to make sure we are a good fit to work together.

Bethany holds a Bachelor of Health Science from Thompson Rivers University and a Master of Counselling from City University in Vancouver. She is a professional member of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association.

Bethany works primarily with people who have experienced trauma, especially relational, childhood, and attachment trauma. You can expect sessions with Bethany to be warm, attuned, and connecting of mind and body. Bethany’s approach is somatic and rooted in attachment theory and neuroscience/polyvagal theory. Her work is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and queer-affirming.

Somatic therapy is a conversation-based therapy rooted in a strong and safe-enough relationship between counsellor and client. As you talk, Bethany may interrupt you to help you notice what is happening in your body. This may feel vulnerable at first and much different than other therapies you may have done! This is done to help anchor you in the experience of the present moment and to shift and regulate nervous system states as necessary to keep you within your window of tolerance.

Slowly but surely, working together in this way helps to heal disconnection and dissociation between mind, body, and spirit and help you find healthier, more expansive, and more flexible ways of relating – to yourself, to others, and to the world.

Please note, Jarris is now offering a blended approach incorporating craniosacral, osteopathic approaches, and Systemic Deep Tissue Therapy.

Jarris is a problem-solver, and his approach is simple: to meet you where you’re at with your health, to understand the symptoms you are experiencing, and to address underlying compensation patterns by treating the body as a whole unit.

We think of the body in terms of left and right, front and back, but the body is really only one, complex, 3-dimensional structure. The body is great at compensating for its problems and will recruit joints, muscles, fascia, etc. beyond its immediate problem areas in order to support its function. Problems can therefore not be solved by hyper-focusing on specific areas.

Jarris has the ability to understand and treat symptoms quickly and move on to the deeper patterns driving dysfunction. Every treatment is therefore a full body treatment, understanding that we cannot truly separate the body into parts on the path to healing. This is the true meaning of holistic.

Jarris’ approach integrates Systemic Deep Tissue Therapy®, Craniosacral therapy, and osteopathic techniques in his treatments as necessary.

Kim is new to the Comox Valley and very excited to share her skills as a therapist. She is originally born and raised a Vancouverite before moving to Nelson, B.C. where she graduated from Kootenay Columbia College as a Registered Massage Therapist.

Kim is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal physical health and wellness. With her caring nature, she was drawn to the profession of massage therapy with a focus on helping alleviate pain, sometimes associated with chronic conditions. By both listening to her patients and “listening” to her hands, she creates a treatment that is specific to her patient’s needs. In her treatments, she uses a combination of deep tissue, slower myofascial work, trigger point release and active and passive stretches in order to reduce pain, restore or increase function. In her past career, which required her to sit at a desk for long hours, she found that she gravitated towards these techniques which were instrumental in alleviating her discomfort and enhancing her overall well-being whenever she saw her own RMT. While Kim is trained to treat a multitude of musculoskeletal and systemic conditions, she is particularly interested in treating seniors, those dealing with chronic pain, and treating overall stress and anxiety.

Outside of massage therapy, Kim enjoys quality time with people she loves, being active in the gym or exploring the outdoors.

Stephanie is a dedicated massage therapist who values patient-centered care. After 13 years living and working as an RMT up North in Whitehorse, she is thrilled to be back home on the West Coast.

Stephanie graduated with honours from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2011. Prior to studying massage, Stephanie obtained a BSc from Dalhousie University, specializing in Health Education. As an RMT, Stephanie is passionate about educating patients so that they can develop the knowledge necessary to achieve optimal health.

Stephanie’s treatments have a strong focus in myofascial therapy. Myofascial therapy relieves pain by releasing the tension within the fascia, the web of connective tissue that spreads throughout the body and surrounds muscles, bones and organs. Fascial release assists the body in maintaining Range of Motion, eliminating Myofascial Trigger Points and reducing restrictive fascial adhesions often caused from postural restrictions or injuries.

Stephanie is a compassionate therapist who looks forward to welcoming you to her practice. Whatever your concern may be, we will work together to develop the best treatment plan for you.
